Michel Eggimann

 

 

Michel Eggimann was born in Neuchatel, Switzerland in 1963.
In 1982, he made his first violin in the workshop of Philippe Girardin in Neuchatel.
As well as his violin studies, he obtained his luthier’s diploma from the international Violin Makers’ school in Cremona in 1986 under the guidance of Maestro Vincenzo Bissolotti.
In 1985, he came 4th with a violin in the IV Triennale Internazionale di Cremona.
In 1986, he won the Stauffer prize with a copy of Guarneri del Gesù 1742.
He worked for more than a year in the workshop of Curtin and Alf, well-know American luthiers who were working in Cremona at that time..
He stayed in Cremona for several years to perfect his art. This also enabled him to establish many long-lasting and mutually profitable contacts with musicians.
In 1991 he moved to Lucca in Tuscany.
He has lived in Rome since 2007, where he has his own workshop in the old city centre, right in the heart of the traditional Roman luthiers’ area, near Campo de’ Fiori.
Michel Eggimann specialises in the realisation of perfect copies of the 17th and 18th century Cremonese masters.
He has made more than 250 instruments up to now. Oil varnish.
The acoustic characteristics together with the aesthetic qualities of his violins have always received unanimous acclaim from the most highly regarded musicians such as the Melos Quartet of Stuttgart, Trio des Iscles (now Dumky Trio of Paris P.O Queyras, violin and V. Marin, cello, Duilio Galfetti founder and first violin of the Barocchisti of Lugano, Stefan Toens, Katerin Melcher, Augustin Hadelisch, Yorrick Troman… and the new generation of violinists from Barcellona.
